Work on ON finished yesterday, with just a week to spare before I leave for Switzerland. I'm super happy with how it turned out, and hopefully I'll be able to publish it eventually. Anyway, it gave me a much better idea of what it takes to finish a full-length comic like ON. (The answer: Two packs of bristol board, two months of spare time, and enough hand soap to get all the charcoal gunk off my hands).
I was really glad to have something to spend my time on this summer - I figure I probably won't have this much free time again. Even with ON, I've probably plowed through a good chunk of my Netflix account, and more. I just wish the weather wasn't so unpleasant, or I would have spent more time outside. But the heat has been good for finding froggies!

Aren't they cute? And they're little, too!
Blogging is an interesting thing. It allows for a lot of information to become part of our everyday world. Most of it is mundane and obnoxious, but there are so many interesting and unusual things that also result from bloggers writing about themselves every day. A notable example is the recent and sudden death of comic artist Mike Wieringo. I was somewhat familiar with his work and I like his style. His passing is unfortunate, and I'm sad that I won't be able to meet who appears to have been a great artist. I visited his blog, and right before the post where his family delivered the news, was a simple post from Wieringo himself, still alive, musing about his air conditioning. It was very interesting to see how much of his life Wieringo had given to everyone, and this was evident by the stream of posts left by wellwishers. Most of them probably never knew the man, but they felt like he was a small part of their life. Dramatic-sounding, I know, but that's the internet for you. Art is the same way, I guess. I've never met Velazquez, but I still learn a bit about him by looking at his works.
And I guess if we can share things more easily with everyone, all the better.
With that said, here's another piece of my growing footprint in the interweb.
The crew of the Coronado, comprising the cast of Soft Earth. The colors aren't perfect, but I think I'm happy with how everyone looks.
My next post will most likely be a report from Switzerland. Wish me luck!
